CLUB’S ACTIVITIES
CLUB’S ACTIVITIES
Our club provides opportunities for students to participate in different activities to enhance their language. This helps the students to improve spelling, vocabulary, pronunciation and comprehension skills. The activities are planned in such a way that the students feel interested and enthusiastic about them. Activities being carried out in the English Literary club are as follows:
BROKEN TELEPHONE
This is a listening and pronunciation activity that always gets people laughing. The leader first must think of a sentence or phrase and whisper it to the person beside him/her. The person will then whisper what he/she heard to the next person. When the message reaches the end of the chain that person must speak out aloud. At last one should find out where the chain broke!
NEWSPAPER SPELLING
Current newspapers are passed out to individual students or groups and then we ask the class to go through the newspaper and find each of their spelling words in print. They can either circle them or cut them out. This is a good way to not only reinforce spelling, but also to encourage students to keep up their current events.
NEWSPAPER SPELLING
Since many spelling lists include words with similar phonetic sounds, it’s easy to create fun poems using spelling words. After the poems have been written, we ask students to brainstorm for more words with the same phonetic sounds. They can even illustrate their poems and put them into a booklet. Spellcheck cards are a great resource to help students spell words in their poems correctly.
